Homemade Pecan Granola

Craving healthy snacks lately? Me too! Granola is great for healthy snacking and adding nutrition to your daily diet. It is one of the easiest foods to make at home and making it yourself puts the control over sugar, fat and flavor content in your own hands!

Homemade Granola

1 cup shelled, chopped pecans

3 cups old fashioned oats

1 and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

pinch freshly grated nutmeg

2 tablespoons turbinado sugar or maple syrup

pinch salt

2 teaspoons canola oil or coconut oil

1 egg white

1 cup chopped dried figs

Mix all ingredients, except dried fruit, together in a bowl until oats and nuts are fully coated. Place in single layer on parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 40 minutes.

Stir granola every 15 minutes until crisp and light golden brown. If granola is browning too quickly at the first 15 minute stir, reduce oven temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove from oven, let cool and stir in dried figs. Store in airtight container.


Feel free to personalize your granola by using the spice, nut and fruit combinations you like.

I like to buy nuts in their shell and shell them myself to prevent an allergic reaction (to peanuts) from nut cross contamination.
